Hello, thank you for visiting.
This is my first post for Spice and Grace. I chose Chef John’s Shrimp Étouffée as the first dish for my first post.
As much as I love to cook, write and take pictures of the dishes that I make, I hate writing recipe posts. Sometimes, I would write a recipe that is based on how I cook the dish or how it is inspired by another recipe.
However, there are recipes that are perfect on their own such as Chef John’s rendition of this delicious Southern dish of shrimp in thick gravy. I did not need to make any alterations. The only change I made was instead of creating the spice blend on his recipe, I used Organics Cajun Seasoning Blend which worked really well. I will use up my jar first then mix my own next time using Chef J’s spice blend recipe. Here is the link of Chef John’s Shrimp Étouffée.
I tried three different recipes that I found on the internet. Some even claim theirs are the authentic one but are not as delicious as Chef J’s recipe. Chef John’s is the winner whether his is authentic or not! The best part for me was not having to stand by the stove stirring roux! It works just fine. Enjoy this Southern dish with rice!
